Meet The Bees & Their Keepers
Tulip Lane Apiaries is located in East Limestone County, Alabama, in the Tennessee Valley between Athens, Madison and Huntsville, and a short distance from Decatur. Our bees are kept without the use of chemicals, antibiotics or any harmful treatments. Our honey is raw, unheated, untreated and harvested straight from our hives.
In addition to raw honey, we also offer propolis tincture (both topical and oral), beeswax, beeswax candles, honey bees, nucleus hives, glass canning jars by the case, and more (subject to availability). We also offer swarm removals and other beekeeping services in our local area.
Pollination
A honey bee visits 50-100 flowers in one trip. Honey from Buckwheat and Sourwood trees have been shown to have additional benefits. Both are grown within our bees foraging area!
Bee Hives
There can be upwards of 40,000 to 60,000 bees in a strong hive come late spring or early summer!
Beeswax
Bees build honeycomb with perfect hexagons sloping at exactly 13º to keep the honey in! The wall of comb is 2/1000 inch thick, but can support 25 times it's own weight. Honey bees produce beeswax from eight paired glands on the underside of their abdomen.
Pure Health
Research has shown that honey contains a wide array of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants. Flavonoids and phenolic acids are found in honey, which act as antioxidants.
Hard Workers
A pound honey is made by 2 million flower visits.
- Why Honey?
It's Pure Energy!
Honey can give you a natural energy boost. It is a mixture of simple sugars glucose and fructose. Studies have shown that this works best in preventing fatigue and enhancing athletes performance. Honey is a natural source of carbohydrates, providing 17 grams per tablespoon, which makes it ideal for your working muscles. Since carbohydrates are the primary fuel the body uses, honey can help maintain muscle glycogen, also known as stored carbohydrates, which gives athletes the boost they need when they need it most.
Straight From The Hive
Honey is 80% sugars, 20% water and full of a variety of vitamins and essential minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids. A pound of honey is made by 2 million flower visits. The bees fly 55,000 miles back and forth to bring that pollen and nectar back to the hive.
